Dickens wanted to “milk the american golden cow”. He would take a physician with him to his performances. Edwin Drood was a completely different way of writing for Dickens, and he died before he finished the book. He only got half way through. The demons of his childhood is what pushed him to write the way he wrote; without them he would not be able to write in this manner. Dickens is one of the most beloved and respected authors of all time.
